Who are we?
At Seccl, we’re on a mission to rebuild the infrastructure of investments and advice. We provide the technology that allows people to access financial markets – buying and selling investments and holding them in tax wrappers like ISAs and pensions.
Our software allows ambitious fintechs to quickly get to market with innovative investment or advice products – and helps financial advisers and investment managers to build stronger, more valuable businesses, by operating their own investment platform.
Ultimately, we want to create a world where everybody can access the financial markets, or find the help they need, more easily and affordably than ever.
We are part of the Octopus Group – an innovative, £12.5bn+ group of companies that’s on a mission to breathe new life into energy and financial services and improve the lives of millions of people.
How can you help?
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and experienced senior DevOps engineer to join our growing team.
You’ll make a difference in our team if you are experienced in automation, continuous integration, and continuous deployment (CI/CD) and monitoring complex distributed software systems in the cloud.
You will be using a wide variety of modern tools, languages, and platforms within this exciting role.
What will you be doing?
Evolving our CI/CD tooling and pipelines with a focus on maximising early feedback and end-to-end responsibility – we have recently moved some of our pipelines to GitHub Actions
Mentoring junior engineers
Implementing a full observability solution to ensure we have data on all our systems with actionable alerts when something isn’t quite right
Building upon our DevOps culture across the product and engineering teams, sharing modern practices and always challenging the status quo
Providing support and guidance to the development team in areas such as onboarding, CI/CD, investigating platform issues etc.
Taking ownership of our AWS estate, helping to automate with Terraform and ensuring we can quickly and reliably deliver environments for our engineers to innovate
Helping to turn start-up/scale-up infrastructure into a mature and resilient system built to scale
Constantly looking at improving our security posture
Who are we looking for?
You’ll be someone who:
Is comfortable debating what we do and how we do it, bringing fresh ideas into the mix and challenging the norm. You will embrace our culture of psychological safety and voice your opinions; this is how we achieve the quality we strive for
Is excited about working with a rapidly growing fintech that will throw you in at the deep end, and where your learning curve will be steep
Is an expert in AWS (Amazon Web Services) with a deep understanding of the core services and best practices, communicating with the wider engineering teams on how to maximise the offerings available
Has an unbreakable desire to ensure all infrastructure is in code using tooling such as Terraform
Has a pragmatic approach to solution design with a focus on performant, scalable and robust solutions with low management overhead e.g., using managed services wherever possible to allow focus on delivering core business value
Has demonstrable experience in at least one programming language (bonus points for experience in writing tests)
Loves to pair-program and is comfortable working with co-workers with varying degrees of experience and a variety of backgrounds to deliver exceptional quality, while up-skilling those around you
Is a natural communicator, describing technical details to technical and non-technical colleagues
Is proactive in turning issues/problems into validated experiments and implementation
Is focused on delivery, but not at the expense of quality
Is comfortable in a fast-paced, ever-changing and improving development environment
Has proven experience in monitoring, alerting and proactive issue mitigation
Has led the implementation of CI/CD pipelines and can comfortably lead a discussion around best practices
Our tech stack
We use Node.js with Typescript deployed on AWS Lambda, Mongo Atlas, and React on the front end.
We manage our infrastructure and deployments using Terraform, Python, and Serverless framework. Our pipelines run from GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
