Product Designer – Part time/flexible hours

Who are we?

At Seccl, we’re on a mission to rebuild the infrastructure of investments and advice. We provide the technology that allows people to access financial markets – buying and selling investments, and holding them in tax wrappers like ISAs and pensions.

Our software allows ambitious fintechs to quickly get to market with innovative investment or advice products – and helps financial advisers and investment managers to build stronger, more valuable businesses, by operating their own investment platform.

Ultimately, we want to create a world where everybody can access the financial markets, or find the help they need, more easily and affordably than ever…

We recently became part of the Octopus Group – an innovative, £9bn+ group of companies that’s on a mission to breathe new life into energy and financial services, and improve the lives of millions of people.

How can you help?

We’re looking for a talented designer who can help us bring a sharp level of finish to new features across our products. You should care as much about how our product features are used as how they look and feel. Your work will really boost customer satisfaction and set us above others in the industry.

What will you be doing?

On a day-to-day level, you’ll…

  • Help shape initial ideas through design workshops and collaborative idea generation. With your help, they’ll go from a sentence on paper to potential new features that make our clients’ lives easier.
  • Produce wireframes and low fidelity prototypes to show new product features in pitches. You’ll help add explanation in a visual manner to ensure the point gets across.
  • Iterate designs and wireframes with input from subject matter experts and research findings.
  • Finish spotless visual design layouts for various screen sizes to be used in feedback and usability testing, as well as handed over to developers for build.
  • Answer questions from developers during build cycles and have input into how things are built. We want to be sure our work has inbuilt flex so we can improve on it in future iterations.

Who are we looking for?

You’ll be someone who’s…

  • Got pixel perfect User Interface Design skills. From mobile to large retina displays, your designs are stunning.
  • A dab hand at Illustration. You’re at home making great illustrations with a flexible style.
  • An Icon connoisseur. We hope to see your excellent iconography sitting alongside words to aid in communication.
  • Great with data visualisation. We’re in the finance world and we need to get data across in a way that anyone can understand. It would be great if you can show us your designs for data visualisation.
  • Got plenty of experience with design systems and libraries. Maybe you’ve even started one from scratch.
  • Happy to champion design as the sole designer in a cross functional team.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with different skill sets to design the best solution. At Seccl we believe anyone can input into great design.
  • Excited about working in a rapidly growing fintech with plenty of insights to absorb and use in your work

Who are you?

If you’re someone who’s looking for reduced hours or extra flexibility, this could be the role to help you get back into your career. Since we’re a small team, for now we would expect this to appeal to a mid-weight designer. This role could also help you add user experience to your skill set through on the job learning. That said, we’re open to all applicants no matter what your background or experience level.

How do we work?

We’re a team of ambitious, talented, and creative people who are passionate about using technology to improve our financial world.

We have a positive, open environment that promotes fresh ideas, challenge and experimentation, and encourages continual learning. We provide flexible working that focusses on delivery rather than just focusing on hours worked.

We’re based in the historic City of Bath, a stone’s throw from the train station. (Literally. You could hit it from our office.)

And the vital statistics?

  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Exposure to the latest technology and an opportunity to help shape the future direction
  • 27 days holiday and a day off for your birthday
  • Pension & Life Assurance
