Product designer

We have an exciting opportunity for talented and empathetic product designer to lead Seccl’s design output.

Product designer

Who are we?

At Seccl, we’re on a mission to rebuild the infrastructure of investments and advice. We provide the technology that allows people to access financial markets – buying and selling investments, and holding them in tax wrappers like ISAs and pensions.

Our software allows ambitious fintechs to quickly get to market with innovative investment or advice products – and helps financial advisers and investment managers to build stronger, more valuable businesses, by operating their own investment platform.

Ultimately, we want to create a world where everybody can access the financial markets, or find the help they need, more easily and affordably than ever.

We recently became part of the Octopus Group – an innovative, £9bn+ group of companies that’s on a mission to breathe new life into energy and financial services, and improve the lives of millions of people.

How can you help?

We’re looking for a talented and empathetic product designer to lead Seccl’s design output. Initially, you’ll be responsible for delivering all of our UX and UI work – but, over time, there could be an opportunity to build and lead a full design function.

What will you be doing?

You’ll take the lead on executing all aspects of design for Seccl, across the full customer journey – spanning UX, UI and, to some extent, visual design. Day to day, you will…

  • Work closely with our product managers in the discovery and ideation of product features
  • Develop rapid wireframes and prototypes to test design ideas, concepts and user flows
  • Create high-fidelity UI designs for our front-end engineers to build
  • Work with our content team to ensure our customers receive a consistent design experience across both ‘logged in’ and ‘logged out’ (in other words, have a hand in Seccl’s visual design, too)
  • Ensure changes and refinements are fully documented
  • Develop and advocate for best-in-class design processes and culture

Who are we looking for? You’ll be someone who’s…

  • Experienced. You’ll be au fait with atomic or lean design methodologies, experienced in Sketch and prototyping tools like Figma or Marvel, and be able to point to existing work that showcases your approach

  • Empathetic. You’ll like to put yourself in the user’s shoes, empathising with their problems and pain points, and creating designs to solve them

  • Versatile. While you’re probably most passionate about product design, you’ll want to be involved in every part of the design journey

  • A doer. Although you might have a leadership role in your sights, you’ll be ready and willing to roll up your sleeves and ship designs at pace

  • Creative. You’ll be comfortable with ambiguity, and like coming at problems from a fresh angle

  • A leader. You are excited by the idea of building a world-class design team. A natural servant-leader, you want to develop your leadership skills to grow into a senior leadership role

How do we work?

We’re a team of ambitious, talented, and creative people who are passionate about using technology to improve our financial world.

We have a positive, open environment that promotes fresh ideas, challenge and experimentation, and encourages continual learning. We provide flexible working that focusses on delivery rather than just focusing on hours worked.

We’re based in the historic City of Bath, a stone’s throw from the train station. (Literally. You could hit it from our office.)

And the vital statistics?

  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Exposure to the latest technology and an opportunity to help shape the future direction
  • 25 days holiday and a day off for your birthday
  • Pension & Life Assurance
