Freelance web developer: short-term project

Who are we?

At Seccl, we’re on a mission to rebuild the infrastructure of investments and advice. We provide the technology that allows people to access financial markets – buying and selling investments, and holding them in tax wrappers like ISAs and pensions.

Our software allows ambitious fintechs to quickly get to market with innovative investment or advice products – and helps financial advisers and investment managers to build stronger, more valuable businesses, by operating their own investment platform.

Ultimately, we want to create a world where everybody can access the financial markets, or find the help they need, more easily and affordably than ever.

We recently became part of the Octopus Group – an innovative, £9bn+ group of companies that’s on a mission to breathe new life into energy and financial services, and improve the lives of millions of people.

How can you help?

We’re looking for a freelancer to help us on a 4-6 week project basis, as we redevelop and expand our marketing site. Built following the Jamstack architecture, the site currently uses Hugo as its static site generator, Netlify for hosting and CMS, and deploys through GitHub.

Provisionally launched c.10 months ago, the site architecture and existing pages are currently being redesigned, along with a number of new product marketing and supporting pages that will need to be developed from scratch.

What will you be doing?

  • Bringing to life the new and expanded page designs created by our in-house design function
  • Creating a series of additional page templates for future use – including landing page code templates for Hubspot
  • Completing the installation of our CMS, so members of the content and marketing team can more easily change and upload new content across the site
  • Measuring and maximising the quality, performance and speed of the site, and ensuring it adheres to technical and SEO best practices
  • Ensuring templates are fully accessible according to WCAG AA standard

Who are we looking for?

You’ll be a front-end web developer who…

  • Is very experienced in creating fast and highly-performant marketing sites (and so is highly proficient in HTML, CSS and Javascript)
  • Has prior experience of working with Jamstack sites. As noted above, our site is built using Hugo, though we are open to the possibility of migrating to Gatsby – your advice and input on this area is welcome

Timings and next steps

We are currently in the design stage and will likely be looking to begin development work early-March.

As the full scope of development work is still being assessed, at this stage we’re looking to speak to interested freelancers who might have availability on a flexible day-rate or project basis, to understand costs and see examples of previous work.

If you’d like to take part in the project, reach out at and our Head of People, Rebecca, will be in touch.
